Max Comic has been working very hard since his AWF debut in 2007, and it shows.
He won the AWF rumble at Year End Extravaganza, Central Coast Youth Club Niagara Park December 6 2008. This victory earned him an AWF Championship Championship title shot. He challenged the then champion Il Cognito at New Years Revolution, Penrith Panthers January 16 2009. Although Il Cognito managed to stop Max from taking his title, it wasn't as easy as he had thought.
When "Fully Loaded" Luke Fordward was injured and unable to compete at Psychoticslam as Billy Flyswat's tag team partner, Billy's natural choice to replace him was fellow Gosford boy and former student Max, and in their first attempt at the then tag team champions Toxin and Massive Q, The Gosford Giddyups won the tag team championship at PsychoticSlam April 18. So far, they have managed to defeat all challengers and retain the championship. Billy Flyswat was already a member of the Detonation Crew, and TNT officially made Max a member at AWF Maynia, May 23 Blacktown RSL.
Their next challenge is the upcoming "Rise Up" tour. Friday July 24 they will be taking part in a 6 person mixed tag team match where they will be teaming up with fellow Detonation Crew member Bombshell Bo against the Platinum Players' Steve Ravenous, Kid Dynamite and a mystery partner. On the Saturday event July 25 at the AWF Dojo they defend their titles against impressive newcomers Frankie Fettucine and Traffic. If successful, they will defend the titles in a rematch against Toxin and Massive Q at the Sunday event July 26 at the Fairy Meadow Fraternity Club. Toxin and Massive Q are still angry that the Giddyups took their belts and they are sure to try anything they can to get the belts back.
AWF Fansite thought we would see how Max is dealing with his recent success and his feelings leading up to the "Rise Up" events.

Hi Max, hows things?
Great. Love the fan site.
Thank you! Before you started training as a wrestler, were you a huge wrestling fan?
No, I was a skinny one.
Ha ha! That's funny!
But I did love wrestling which is why I wanted to do it, so I spent a lot of time looking at promotions in NSW and in the end it was a very easy choice to begin training with AWF.
Who were some of your favourite wrestlers?
Chris Jericho & The Rock were probably the top two. I became a fan of wrestling in the 90's so Shawn Michaels, Edge & Christian are right behind them, I think I just related more to the leaner, smaller guys, plus I loved their athleticism and they were all very entertaining on the mic. I'm a big fan of guys who tear it up on the mic so Piper, Jerry Lawler and Santino Marella also deserve a mention. Jericho for me anyway is the complete package, I don't think there's anything he can't do, plus I've been lucky enough to have met him a few times and that really increased my bias towards him.
WWE or TNA?
WWE.
Who is your current favourite wrestler?
Bombshell Bo.
How would you best describe your wrestling style?
Long tights & boots.
What is your finishing move?
The Punchline. It's a fist drop similar to Jerry Lawler's but I deliver it off the top rope.
You are a proud Central Coast boy. How did it feel winning the AWF Rumble in front of your home crowd?
That was a huge thing. There was 17 other guys in that match gunning for an AWF title shot. I had the advantage in being the last entrant and one of the most rested but when I got out there in the ring it was down to Billy Flyswat and all of Freak Show so I didn't think I had a snowball's chance in heck! It was probably the loudest I've ever heard fans get at an AWF show.
To win something like that in front of my friends, family & girlfriend too was very satisfying and we partied all night in Baker Street Gosford.
The AWF Rumble victory earned you an AWF championship title shot. You went up against the then champion Il Cognito January 16 at Penrith Panthers. During the match you kicked out after being hit by an impressive tombstone piledriver. That was amazing, the adrenalin must have really been pumping!
I had a lot to prove I guess, I wanted the title but at the very least didn't want to be seen as a fluke artist which is why I wanted to put up a fight.
I wasn't thinking "live to fight another day" which looking back was probably stupid of me because even after kicking out, the effects of it still didn't leave me with much longer to go in that match. He's very good at picking apart a weakness and my neck hasn't been quite the same after that.
How did the pairing of yourself and Billy Flyswat come about?
We paired up before at Niagara Park in 2007 and then again in Melbourne in 2008 at Supanova. He and Chris X were teaming on & off up until they joined with the Detonation Crew and became champions but through all that time Billy and I both rode together and were probably better mates than him and Chris were. When Luke Fordward was injured Billy came to me because he knew we were able to get a win over a big team like Krackerjak & Logan and in those 3 previous matches we felt we had chemistry, but this time I was more experienced and more reliable and eagar to put Gosford on the map, and Billy loves Gosford.
And the name "The Gosford Giddyups", is there a story behind that?
I was cleaning out a store room at my old job and came across a box of singlets that said "Gosford Giddyups" with a big dopey looking donkey on them. I took them to save them being thrown out coz they were still band new. It was a backstage joke for a while, the original Giddyups were me, Billy and Wonderland, this was back when she was a trainee and lived in Gosford before she joined Freak Show. I still wear my singlet whenever I'm in the gym as the material really breathes.
You and Billy Flyswat won the tag team championship at PsychoticSlam which was a celebration of 10 years of AWF. How did it feel taking part in such a huge event?
Felt great, I was all ready for the Rumble that night to be honest, I wanted to make my Rumble record 2-0 but to win a title on a show that big was much better. For any Aussie wrestling company to reach the 10 year mark is a huge accomplishment so it was great to be a part of such an important weekend for AWF.
At Blacktown RSL May 23 you got the recognition you deserve when TNT officially inducted you into the Detonation Crew. That must have been a great moment for you. How did it feel knowing that you had gained his respect and that of the other members?
I felt out of the loop last year when it seemed like every person was in a faction, but then I came to like being on my own, I felt like I stood out a bit more but things change I guess. For TNT to do that after I obnoxiously imitated him in Newcastle showed that he's got a sense of humour and admired my efforts. Also, you won't hear me complaining about spending more time around Bombshell Bo. Giggidy giggidy!!
You were once quoted as saying that you "were not afraid" of Powerhouse Theo and would like to wrestle him. Now that you are both Detonation Crew members, what is the likelihood of that ever happening?
Every time I see that guy backstage he reminds me that I'm the only person he hasn't wrestled yet and I was always hoping our paths would cross because I think it would be a good match, but you also won't hear me complain about being allied with him. Here's hoping he grants me a shot at that Commonwealth title for being such a top bloke.
This year AWF again took part in Supanova. You wrestled solo on Sunday with great support from the crowd. How did it feel knowing that the whole crowd was behind you?
Supanova is a tough crowd. Not all of them are there to see wrestling, in fact a very small portion of them are, so it felt great to get that response because they usually just stand there quietly waiting for someone to bust out a lightsaber. Still it's good to know that I can still be solo after tagging for this long and get that kind of reaction.
At the "Rise Up" AWF Dojo event, you will be defending the tag team championship against Frankie Fettucine and Traffic. Although relatively new to the scene, these two have been on somewhat of a roll lately and I'm sure are not to be taken lightly. If successful, you will then go on to defend the championship against Massive Q and Toxin in a PsychoticSlam rematch Sunday July 26 at The Fairy Meadow Fraternity Club. These two are still reeling from losing the titles and will probably stop at nothing to get the titles back. How would you prepare for such an event?
Spending time in the gym and spending time working on teamwork with Billy. Everyone we're going to be against is a singles wrestler who happens to have wound up in a tag team. We still haven’t even used our new finisher so who knows? Frankie and Traffic might even be the fan favourites at the AWF Dojo because they have a decent following there. They will have a lot of confidence coming off their win over Q and Toxin at Supanova. Billy and I will just have to keep focussed, try to outsmart them and wait for Frankie's showmanship to be his downfall. Traffic is a huge weapon so we will just need to out-quick him. Same with Q, but him and Toxin in Fairy Meadow is a tough one because they'll both be angry with losing the tag titles and then to Frankie and Traffic. We're just go have to keep cool heads when the Juggernaut sets anchor in Fairy Meadow. We've been on a roll and we don't intend for it to end soon as we will be returning to Gosford in August and we intend to be defending the titles on that night, not fighting to regain them.
Thank you for your time Max, and best of luck for the "Rise Up" events.
Thanks Neil, keep it up!
