Neil & Katrina Wells

Neil and Katrina Wells are dedicated AWF fans. They won the supporters of the year award for 2008. AWF Fansite thought we would get their feelings on all things wrestling and AWF.

==========================================================================================

Hi Neil and Katrina, how are you both?
Neil: I'm good thanks.
Katrina: I'm going well.

How long have you been a wrestling fan?
I have been watching wrestling since I was in school, I think about 1988. I can remember sitting down with my mates and watching Wrestlemania 2. I remember watching Hulk Hogan and King Kong Bundy go at it in a steel cage. That was fun!
I started occasionally watching wrestling with a friend’s 10 year old son when I was in my 20s in the early 90s, and played action wrestling heroes with him. I didn’t actually really get into wrestling until 2007, after I met my then, boyfriend Neil. Then I got hooked on WWE. I would shout and shake my fist at the TV screen and yell for my favourite wrestlers.

Who was your favourite wrestler?
I had so many, it's hard to pick just one. Bret "Hitman" Hart, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker are some that come to mind. Also, although not technically wrestlers, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and Eric Bischoff. I used to love the commentary between Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon. I remember crying when Gorilla died. I personally believe Eric saved wrestling in the late 90's, and he did it with three little letters - nWo.
My Faviourites were: Rick Flair, The Undertaker, Edge (before he went bad) and Mickie James.

Who is your current favourite wrestler?
I like the look of the Legacy and Natalya. I like the concept of the new Hart Foundation. That could be interesting.
I still like the Undertaker, Chris Masters, and Mickie James

WWE or TNA?
WWE, to me TNA currently feels like WCW was pre nWo.
WWE only because I am used to the format of it.

How did you find out about AWF?
We discovered AWF at Supanova Sydney 2007. It was two weeks after our wedding and also Katrina's birthday. The next show was at Niagara Park and was featuring Raven. I wanted to go there just to see Raven and got hooked on the local talent.
Neil took me to Supanova which is a comic superhero convention. His brother had a stand there and we discovered that an Australian wrestling group would be wrestling there too. Neil had seen on a flyer that a wrestler from WWE would be at the next show and he took me there. It was a lot of fun and exciting and it seemed to draw you in.

What do you like about AWF?
It is great fun, up close and personal. The guys are also a great bunch of people.
It was a lot of great fun and was exciting and it seemed to draw you in and with the help of the wrestlers and their ringside supporters - made you join in, clapping and yelling for the guys. They were also very friendly and easily approachable after the show. It is open to the very young and old and everyone has a fantastic time.

Who is your favourite AWF wrestler?
Powerhouse Theo. Max Comic, Il Cognito, Steve Ravenous and TNT also deserve honourable mentions. Ben Coles and Mick Moretti have also been impressing me.
TNT, Powerhouse Theo, Max Comic, Bombshell Bo, Shazza or her evil twin Chantelle Bathory as she is now, Il Cognito, Massive Q (we have a rapport going there); Allison Wonderland and Toxin.

What would you say to wrestling fans that haven't seen AWF?
I would say come and check it out. AWF is so much more fun because you can be really close to ringside and can interact with the wrestlers. I have met parents who were at shows for the first time. A lot of them have said that their kids had more fun there than at the WWE shows. Some people seem to think that if it's not WWE, HHH, etc it's not good. That's just not true.
I would say you have to definitely come at least once to check it out and not to be discouraged that it isn’t WWE or American. Australian wrestlers can certainly prove without a doubt that they are up with all the rest and best of them! It is a lot more interactive with the wrestlers than WWE, and you get really up and close and personal and can sit ringside and cheer them on or give them flack and they love it! The seats are a good price too compared to prices for WWE. That is a draw card for families with young fans who want to see wrestling but can’t afford to go to WWE events when it is on and these guys go from Campbelltown, Gosford to Wollongong to spread the fun and enjoyment. There is one wrestler, Powerhouse Theo who travels from Bathurst to shows. That is dedication of a wrestler. So it must be a good group to work with, to do that.
